Research interests:

  1. Nanofabrication and Device Engineering
  2. Advanced Characterisation Techniques
  3. Materials for Sustainable Energy Technologies
  4. Device Physics

The research work in the group focuses on development of advanced, high efficiency III-V photovoltaics. The PhD project will be aimed at investigation of novel designs for optoelectronic devices with integrated light management systems. The work will include the use of simulation tools, as well as the development of fabrication methods for novel solar cell designs. Fabricated layer structures will be characterised using laser spectroscopy techniques. This characterisation will be correlated with simulation to unpick carrier recombination within the system pinpointing dominant mechanisms. Designs will be iteratively improved to increase the cell efficiency.

Who or what inspired you to pursue your research interests?

This programme will allow me to deepen my commitment to research by growing as an independent thinker and making original contributions. Enrolling in a PhD programme offers a chance to apply my theoretical background in nanotechnology to the development of optoelectronic devices. I believe that advancements within this research area can have a major impact on the future of renewable energy.
