PhD thesis: Understanding Specific Remedies

My research enquires into the normative and conceptual foundations of specific remedies, which are orders that compel a defendant to do that which he or she has most reason to do at the time of judgment. It provides an account of the conditions precedent and of defeasance to specific orders which is not predicated on the distinction between the historical Courts of Common Law and Chancery.

Who or what inspired you to pursue your research interests?

I was inspired to pursue this research by Prof John Gardner’s continuity thesis, which was advanced in his seminal article ‘What is Tort Law For? Part 1: The Place of Corrective Justice’ and further developed in his From Personal Life to Private Law (OUP 2018).
