PhD thesis: Holographic Multibeam Interference Lithography

My project involves using holograms to create and improve patterning techniques used in manufacturing. Holograms are patterns that can capture both intensity and phase information from wavefronts of light. Compared to conventional imaging, holography offers greater control on shapes and patterns in 3D using elegant mathematics and fewer physical optical devices. In my PhD we are working to combine holography with interference of light to create high resolution patterns used for low-cost lithography./p>

Who or what inspired you to pursue your research interests?

I was drawn towards nanofabrication from my experience of studying materials engineering during my bachelors. Due its small length scales, tiny error margins and complex physical phenomena, nanofabrication covers some of the most difficult engineering processes used today. Despite this, it is crucial for making semiconductors, electronics and other devices that are essential for humanity and our way of life today. As a field that is getting increasingly contested in international affairs, I am hopeful that my work will help de-risk some of this complexity, thus making it more sustainable for a better future.
